1) Election coverage. It will be blanket coverage from the news channels and most broadcast networks. Plans call for NBC to start at 6:30 p.m. ET, CBS at 7, ABC and PBS at 8. Most will pause for local news at 11 and ABC has Jimmy Kimmel at 11:35, but coverage may continue afterward. Kimmel and Jon Stewart (11, Comedy Central) will be taped earlier that night. And yest, there are alternatives, including “Best Medicine” (shown here).
2) “Best Medicine.” 8 p.m., Fox. After a one-week baseball break, this gentle gem returns, competing with election coverage. A self-proclaimed homeopath is back and townsfolk feel they’ve had miracle cures. Martin tries to debunk them, while worrying about the relationship between (shown here) his secret crush Louisa and his medical monitor.
3) More election alternatives. At 8 and 9 p.m., CW has “Trivial Pursuit” and “Scrabble” reruns, hosted by Levar Burton and Craig Ferguson. And at 9, Fox has a new episode of the excellent “Doc”: Amy, still with her own memory gaps, has a patient who’s endangered by a secret past.
4) Movie adventures. Here are the films of two master directors. One deals with clever, time-travel fantasy (James Cameron’s “Terminator,” 7:30 p.m., BBC America), the other with a compelling true story (Clint Eastwood directing Bradley Cooper in “American Sniper,” 9, Syfy).
5) More movies. There’s a double feature of popular films directed by Ben Affleck: The Oscar-winning “Argo” is 7 p.m. on Showtime, with “Air” at 9 and 11:30 on TruTV. You’ll also find fun with the first “Toy Story” films (7 and 8:55, Freeform), “Bridesmaids” (8 p.m., E) or “Beverly Hills Cop” and its sequel is (8 and 10:15 p.m., AMC).
