1) “Girl From the North Country” (shown here), 9 p.m., PBS. In a boarding-house in 1934 Duluth, life is overwhelming. There are layers of snow and of secrets; the Depression has left people with no money and little hope. We get deep human portraits and powerfully performed Bob Dylan songs, including Mare Winningham doing “Like a Rolling Stone” and “Forever Young.”
2) “The Greatest @Home Videos,” 8 p.m., CBS. This wraps up a brief, two-week return of this occasional special. With Memorial Day coming up, Cedric the Entertainer adds a video tribute to the military.
3) “Fire Country,” 9 p.m., CBS. In a rerun, Bode and Gabriela consider revealing a secret. That’s followed by an “NCIS: Sydney” rerun, bumping “SWAT” –which was canceled, but keeps finding new life. Now the “SWAT” producers plan to put Hondo into a 10-episode spin-off; it will be sold internationally, with no specific U.S. network.
4) “Happy’s Place,” 8 and 8:30 p.m., NBC. After some goofy moments at the start, the first episode gets better when it nudges Bobbie (Reba McEntire) into a tattoo parlor. The second goes the other way — a good start, involving a hidden whiskey bottle, and then a crumbling finish.
5) Sports. At 8 p.m. ET, we get a choice. There’s the basketball playoffs (Pacers-Knicks on TNT), hockey playoffs (Edmonton-Dallas on ESPN) and the United Football League (St. Louis-San Antonio on ABC).
