Luna launches Kimmel’s guest-host summer

A TV tradition — guest hosts of late-night shows — returns this summer.
Jimmy Kimmel has announced a full line-up of people to take his spot, at 11:35 p.m. weekdays on ABC.That starts the week of June 23 with Diego Luna (shown here), then includes such varied souls as Fortune Feimster and Jelly Roll.
Johnny Carson used to have a busy roster of guest hosts, including Jay Leno, Joan Rivers, David Brenner and more. That idea fell out of favor until 2020, when Kimmel — after working year-round for 18 years — decided to spend summers with his family.
Now he’ll start with Luna, 45. He starred in Spanish-language films and co-starred in English ones, until receiving a big boost — playing Cassian Andor in the “Star Wars” film “Rogue One” and the Disney+ series “Andor.”.
Luna is also a producer, writer and director. He directed the “Cesar Chavez” movie; one of his guests will be Dolores Huerta, 95, who co-led the farm-workers union movement with Chavez (and was played by Rosario Dawson in the movie).
Other guests may be less serious, including Alan Tudyk (“Resident Alien”), Tiffany Haddish and Patton Oswalt.
The other guest hosts include Anthony Anderson, Nicole Byer, Alan Cumming, Chris Distefano and Kumail Nanijani, plus Feimster and Jelly Roll.
