1) “The American Southwest,” 10 p.m., PBS. The Colorado River (shown here) flows for 1,450 miles, from the Rocky Mountains to Mexico. It carved the Grand Canyon and is partly diverted to California farms. This portrait juggles gorgeous vistas, clumsy narration, strong ecological comments and views of critters, from beavers to snakes and salmon flies.
2) “Chicago Med,” 8 p.m., NBC. For six weeks, this was on the shelf while “Brilliant Minds” aired its final episodes — great ones at first, then a disappointing finale. Now “Med” returns, with a rerun focusing on its veteran characters: Charles (Oliver Platt) is shadowed by three residents; Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) faces a crucial meeting.
3) “Harlan Coben’s Final Twist,” 8 p.m., CBS. In a true-crime rerun, a woman wakes and finds her husband has been shot and killed while sleeping next to her. That’s followed by reruns of “NCIS” (McGee is kidnapped) and “NCIS: Sydney” (a tarot card is found near a body).
4) “MasterChef,” 8-10 p.m., Fox. It’s a rarity: a day with no World Cup games. To fill the gap, Fox reruns these episodes, with soccer themes. The Cup quarter-finals start Thursday; “MasterChef” has a new hour next week.
5) Movies, 8 p.m. Choices range from J.K. Simmons Oscar-winning intensity in “Whiplash” (2014, MGM+) to the way-less-intense “Finding Dory” (2016, Disney Channel). Strong choices also include “Die Hard” (1988, AMC), “A Few Good Men” (1992, BBC America) and, at 8:27, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981, Paramount Network).
