Best-bets for July 12: double-Joel, plus sharks

1) “The 1% Club” and “Animal Control,” 7 and 8:30 p.m., Fox. Joel McHale is a big plus for Fox, with both of these shows — a game (which resumes new episodes Monday) and a situation comedy. The latter rerun is uneven, but has great moments at the start (with Rob Gronkowski) and the end: As union rep, Frank (McHale, shown here) must defend his enemy, Templeton. Read more…

2) “Grantchester,” 9 p.m., PBS. A terrific show is down to the last four episodes of its 11th and final season. Tonight, Alphy is jolted by corruption in the church; there are also complications for the marriages of Geordie and of Larry and Jennifer. That follows a fairly good “Patience” that includes some touching moments for a would-be romance.

3) “Big Brother,” 8-9:30 p.m., CBS. Next week, this will settle into one-hour shows on Sundays, followed by “Marshals” and “Tracker.” For now, however, the 90-minute episode is followed by a funny “George & Mandy’s First Marriage” at 9:30 (Mandy tries to advise Missy about romance) and “Marshals” at 10 (protecting a judge and her family).

4) “Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story” (2025), 9-11 p.m., National Geographic Channel. It’s an all-rerun day for “Sharkfest,” but some shows are worth re-seeing. At 4 p.m., Bertie Gregory looks for hammerheads; it takes a while, but he gets great footage along the way. And at 9 is this terrific documentary, made for the 50th anniversary of “Jaws.”

5) “What About Bob?” (1991), 8:33 to 11 p.m., ABC. Here’s a long-ago comedy gem that doesn’t get shown often. Deftly directed by Frank Oz, it has Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss as a quirky soul and his exasperated psychiatrist. Other movies include “Field of Dreams” (1989), 5:30 p.m., BBC America, and “Transformers” (2007), 7 p.m., CW.
