1) “The Shards” openers, 9 and 10:11 p.m., FX. In “beautiful, empty houses,” Bret says, teens with absent parents cavort. Bret (whom writer Bret Easton Ellis based partly on himself) is a closeted bisexual with a hot girlfriend (they’re shown here) and an obsession for the new guy (played by Homer Gere, Richard’s son). A killer looms, in a story as smart, gorgeous and hollow as its characters.
2) “Ted Lasso” season-opener, Apple. For three seasons, this dominated, twice winning the Emmy for best comedy series. Then it stopped; Ted (Jason Sudeikis), a soccer coach, needed to be back in the U.S. with his son. Now, three years later, he’s back, this time coaching a women’s team.
3) “Scrubs,” 9-11 p.m., ABC. Bill Lawrence’s amiable shows never quite die. His “Ted Lasso” was gone for three years; this one was gone for 16, before returning this year. Here are reruns of its first four returning episodes: J.D. (Zach Braff) finds himself back at the old hospital; this time he’s the boss, working with his friends (Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke).
4) “Nation’s Dumbest.” 9 p.m., Fox. To no one’s surprise, the front-runners (Dr. Drew Pinsky and former presidential candidate Andrew Yang) have won the last two rounds and gone home. To everyone’s surprise, JoJo Siwa — whose dance and music career left little time for schooling — was runner-up both time. Now this fun show has nine people left.
5) ALSO: At 8 p.m., Fox’s “MasterChef” sees Nick DiGiovanni (a “celebrity chef”) urge people to devise a dish that uses their roots and also could go viral online. At 9, PBS “Nova” reruns its look at the Artemis II moon mission; that fits with a PBS rerun (9 p.m. Friday) about the original mission.
