CBS seems determined to spotlight all of the female music icons.
Its Video Music Awards show (7:30-9:30 p.m. ET Sunday, Sept. 27) will now be a Madonna-Taylor-Dolly event. And two months later, CBS will have a Thanksgiving-night event, with Jennifer Lopez (shown here) backed by a swarm of singers, dancers and musicians.
Details include:
— The VMA’s had already planned a double-icon day: Madonna (who leads with 11 nominations) will open the show and Taylor Swift becomes the first winner of an award for performers who direct their own videos.
Now come extra touches: The show will debut a Swift video; it will also have Kacey Musgraves perform a tribute to Parton … who was the subject of two previous CBS specials, after her death Aug. 25 at 80.
— Lopez launched a big-scale performance in Las Vegas last winter. Now “The JLo Show” will be 8-10 p.m. on Nov. 26, which is Thanksgiving.
The show is partly autobiography, going back to her roots in the Bronx. She does some of the songs she’s debuted, plus others, backed by an orchestra, a vocal ensemble and 16 dancers.
