Emmys get a new date — on Martin Luther King Day

The Emmy Awards now have a new date – Jan. 15, four months later than the original plan.
That will be 8-11 p.m. ET (5-8 p.m. PT) on Fox, with Jesse Collins Entertaiment — producer of recent Super Bowl halftimes (shown here) and more — in charge. The announcement today (Aug. 10):

Networks often avoid colliding with the King holiday. This time, however, the Emmys will be produced by Collins, a leader in Black-themed entertainment.
Collins has produced mini-series about New Edition and about Bobby Brown, plus unscripted shows with Gabrielle Union, Marlon Wayans, Becky G and a linking of Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama. He has also produced the three most recent Super Bowl shows, featuring Rihanna (shown here), The Weeknd and a 50th-year tribute to hip hop.
He has become the annual producer of the Grammy, BET and Soul Train awards and has also produced some editions of the Golden Globes, the Oscars, and the Academy Awards.
In addition, he’s done themed specials dealing with the civil rights movement, Juneteenth and protest songs. Now – assuming the strikes are settled – he’ll have an Emmy event on Martin Luther King Day.
