1) “Brilliant Minds,” 8 p.m., NBC. There’s a new case (there always is) that’s excellent, seen through the mind of a teen fantasy-fiction writer. But there are other things to resolve — some tonight and some in next week’s oddly sub-par series finale. That includes a fascinating closing twist in the story of “Sofia” (shown here) the imaginary person conjured in Dr. Wolf’s mind.
2) “The Kimberley,” 10 p.m., PBS. Beautifully filmed and smartly narrated. this visits an Australian region the size of California, which has only 34,000 people. Most are indigenous (including Mark Coles Smith, who narrates). We see deadly toads, 20-foot crocs and odd mudskippers. Dolphins hunt a baby whale; 100,000 shorebirds arrive en masse.
3) Sports stuff. World Cup games are overlapping now; Fox and Fox Sports1 both have games at 3, 6 and 9 p.m. today. Then there’s basketball: ESPN has the second round of the pro basketball draft at 8 p.m. ET. And baseball? At 7, TruTV has “Moneyball,” a true (mostly) Aaron Sorkin film starring Brad Pitt.
4) “Harlan Coben’s Final Twist,” 8 p.m., CBS. This reruns an interesting true-crime story about a successful businesswoman, slain in her home. That’s followed by reruns of “NCIS” (a Marine suspected of kidnapping) and “NCIS: Sydney,” with the team racing to Antarctica.
5) “Stand By Me” (1986), 7 p.m., BBC America. Rob Reiner’s youth classic turned a Stephen King tale into a deep and entertaining glimpse. That’s followed by a different take on youth: “The Lost Boys” (1987), at 9, is the teen-vampire story that’s currently a successful Broadway musical.
